The murder of 22-year-old Swathi Ramesh Badigere from Masur village has sparked controversy, with demands for justice growing on social media.
Swathi, a nurse at a hospital in Ranebennur, went missing on 3rd March. Her body was discovered on 6th March near the Tungabhadra River in Fatehpur village, Haveri district. Initially, police treated it as an unidentified body and conducted a post-mortem before confirming it was a murder case.
Her mother, Shashirekha, filed a missing complaint on 7th March. The family later identified Swathi’s body through police photographs.

Social media soon erupted with allegations linking the murder to communal tensions, with the hashtag “Justice for Swathi” trending.
However, Haveri Superintendent of Police Ansukumar dismissed any communal links. He stated that Swathi was killed due to personal reasons. A key suspect, Nayaz, has been arrested, while two more suspects remain at large. Police teams have been formed to track them down.
Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to establish a clear motive and bring all culprits to justice.
