In a major crackdown on elements threatening public order, the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday said it has booked 23 terror associates and miscreants under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) in Srinagar.

According to a police spokesperson, the accused—linked to banned terror outfits and involved in subversive and disruptive activities—have been shifted to district jails in Poonch, Udhampur, and Kot Balwal in Jammu.

"In a decisive action against subversive and criminal elements inimical to the security and public order of the nation, the Srinagar police has booked 23 terror associates of proscribed terror outfits involved in subversive activities and miscreants involved in public disturbance under the PSA," he said.

The individuals were detained based on detention orders issued by the District Magistrate, Srinagar, following detailed dossiers submitted by the police. Several of the accused had prior criminal cases and continued engaging in unlawful activities despite being granted bail by courts, the spokesperson noted.

"They did not mend their ways even after getting bail from the courts. They were brazenly involved in the disturbance of public order, criminal and subversive activities against the nation," he said.

The police said this action is part of a sustained effort to dismantle criminal and anti-national networks operating in Srinagar. Reaffirming its commitment, the spokesperson emphasised that police will continue to act firmly against all elements posing a threat to public safety and national security.

He also issued a stern warning: “Those involved in activities harmful to the nation’s security should know that the law will inevitably catch up with them, and justice will be served.”
