A 23-year-old woman was found dead at her home in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. According to reports, she left behind a note expressing love for her parents.
Riya Kumari Thapa, daughter of a veteran of the 1999 Kargil War, was discovered by her family on Tuesday morning after they became concerned when she did not respond from her room.
Her mother had gone to call her for lunch. When there was no response, other family members were alerted and they entered the room, where they found her hanging. Police said a note was recovered from the room during the investigation.
In the note, Riya reportedly wrote "I love you, Mummy, Papa. No one is at fault."
Senior police officer Ankit Kandari said Riya often studied late into the night and usually woke up later in the day. According to police, the note suggested she had been struggling with self-doubt and had blamed herself for not meeting her own expectations.
Investigators believe academic pressure and disappointment over her studies may have contributed to her emotional distress.
Riya had been a bright student and scored 97 per cent in Class 12, topping her school. She was preparing for the NEET-UG re-examination scheduled for June 21 after not clearing the exam earlier.
Authorities have urged students and families to seek emotional support during times of stress and to reach out for help when needed.
