Approximately 25,000 central forces personnel are set to be deployed for the upcoming elections in the initial phase encompassing three Lok Sabha constituencies in northern West Bengal, slated for April 19, as confirmed by an official on Sunday.
The polling will take place in Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, and the Jalpaiguri Lok Sabha seats during the first phase.
"In the first phase of elections on April 19, around 250 companies of central forces will be deployed. Each district will operate a control room, overseen by senior officers," stated the official.
With each company of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) comprising approximately 100 personnel, the total deployment amounts to roughly 25,000 security personnel to oversee the electoral process in these three constituencies.
Chief Electoral Officer Ariz Aftab emphasised that comprehensive measures are being implemented to ensure the integrity and peaceful conduct of the elections in the state.
"Any form of disturbance will not be tolerated," Aftab asserted.
He further urged political leaders to exercise restraint in their campaign rhetoric, warning of immediate action by the Election Commission against any violation. Aftab also emphasized the prohibition of involving individuals below 18 years of age in political campaigning.
Additionally, authorities have reported the seizure of over Rs 68 crore in cash from various locations across the state.
Aftab is scheduled to convene a virtual meeting with the returning officers on Monday to further coordinate election preparations.
