The Himachal government has proposed development works worth Rs 25 crore for Garli–Paragpur and the Kaleshwar Mahadev Temple. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stated this in the Vidhan Sabha. The focus is on improving tourism and tourists' experience in Kangra while protecting the heritage identity of the area.
He said Paragpur was declared a heritage village in 1997 and Garli in 2002. An earlier proposal had been sent to the Central government, and Rs 52 lakh was spent by 2006 on conservation work. Many heritage structures remain under private ownership.
The CM reiterated that Kangra has been named Himachal’s tourism capital, and developing Garli–Paragpur is now a priority for his government.
Earlier, Jaswan–Paragpur BJP MLA Bikram Thakur had raised a call attention motion, demanding that the government should improve tourism facilities in two heritage villages. He highlighted the architectural, cultural and religious significance of the two villages and asked for heritage homes, better connectivity on the Dharamsala–Una road, streetlights, parking spaces and public toilets.
