Heavy rainfall has ravaged Himachal Pradesh, triggering landslides and flash floods, leading to the closure of 280 roads, with 150 shut on Saturday alone.
The extreme weather has also caused water from overflowing streams to enter several houses in Una, prompting the Lahaul and Spiti police to issue an advisory warning residents and travelers to exercise extreme caution.
Rescue operations are underway to trace approximately 30 individuals who went missing following the July 31 flash floods in Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla districts. Unfortunately, there has been no significant success, with 28 bodies recovered so far.
The state has suffered substantial losses, with over 100 people killed in rain-related incidents and estimated damages of around Rs 842 crore between June 27 and August 9.
The regional meteorological office has issued an 'orange' alert, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
The MeT office has also warned of low to moderate flash flood risk in isolated parts of Chamba, Hamirpur, Kullu, Mandi, Sirmaur, and Shimla districts.
Plantations, crops, vulnerable structures, and 'kutcha' houses could suffer damage due to strong winds and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
Kinnaur district has been cut off from the state capital Shimla following flash floods between Pooh and Kaurik and a landslide on the National Highway 5 near Negulsariin. The state emergency operation centre data revealed that 96 roads have been closed in Mandi, 76 in Shimla, 37 in Kullu, 33 in Sirmaur, 26 in Chamba, seven in Lahaul and Spiti, and five in Hamirpur.
