An earthquake of moderate magnitude, measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale, hit the Kashmir Valley on Thursday. No loss of life or property damage was reported, officials said.
The epicentre was in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district. The quake occurred around 1:41 pm at a latitude of 34.68° north and a longitude of 74.39° east, at a depth of five km.
Meanwhile, another earthquake and cloudburst had hit Kishtwar district early morning on Thursday, officials said, adding there were no reports of any loss of life or damage to property.
The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) said the earthquake with its epicentre near Kishtwar measured 3.1 in magnitude and occurred at 1.36 am on Monday.
Jammu and Kashmir has now experienced three back-to-back moderate earthquakes within 48 hours. Jammu and Kashmir falls in seismic zone V due to the presence of a major fault line.
Earlier on Wednesday, an earthquake of magnitude 3.5 struck Doda district on Wednesday morning.
According to the seismic data released by the National Centre for Seismology, the earthquake’s epicentre was located 5 km below the surface in the Doda region.
