A moderate earthquake struck Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district at 8:42 am on Sunday, causing mild tremors in parts of the region. However, no casualties or property damage have been reported, officials confirmed.
According to the Meteorological Department (MeT), the earthquake had a magnitude of 3.7 on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was recorded at 31.48° latitude and 76.95° longitude, located in the Mandi region.
The tremor originated near Kiargi in the Sundernagar area at a depth of 7 kilometers, the MeT office stated. Mandi district lies in seismic zone 5, which is classified as a high-risk zone for earthquakes, making the region prone to significant seismic activity.
Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, as the area’s vulnerability to earthquakes necessitates preparedness for potential future tremors.
