Three people, including a woman and her son, lost their lives and another person was seriously injured after a car crashed into a parked SUV on the Jalandhar–Pathankot National Highway in Hoshiarpur district, police said on Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as Shabnam Saini (48) and her son Tushant (18), who were travelling in an Ertiga car, and Rahul (25), who was in the parked SUV. Station House Officer of Tanda Police Station, Gurinderjit Singh Nagra, said the accident took place late on Monday when Saini and her son were travelling from Jalandhar to Dasuya.
Near the Cholang toll plaza, the driver reportedly lost control over the vehicle and the car crashed into the parked SUV. The SUV overturned and fell towards the roadside, while the Ertiga was badly damaged. Saini, Tushant and Rahul died on the spot, police officials said.
William, another occupant of the SUV, sustained serious injuries. He was admitted to the Community Health Centre in Tanda. Police officials said further probe into the incident is underway.
