A minor girl was reportedly gang-raped several times by three men prior to their attempt to bury her alive to cover up their misdeed in Odisha's Jagatpur district, sources informed India Today. Whereas two of the accused, who were brothers, have been taken into custody, one is absconding. Two brothers Bhagyadhar Das and Panchanan Das of Banashbara village in Jagatpur, along with their accomplice Tulu Babu, allegedly kept terrorising the girl in a consistent manner for a long duration of time, sources said.
The prolonged sexual exploitation left the girl pregnant. Upon realising that the girl was five-months pregnant, the three suspects attempted to bury her alive so that they would not be caught committing the crime. Luckily, the girl was rescued in good time.

The survivor was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment after the incident, where she receives medical attention under continuous doctor's supervision.
Subsequently, the survivor's father made a complaint formally against the accused at the local police station, on which a case was filed under the applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Although Bhagyadhar Das and Panchanan Das were arrested, Tulu Babu was able to escape the village and is still on the run as a manhunt to catch him is underway.
A further probe into the issue is ongoing, the sources further noted.
