Security forces in Manipur have arrested three active cadres of the banned insurgent outfit PREPAK in connection with a series of grenade attacks on residential houses in Imphal East and Imphal West districts. In separate operations, police also recovered a large cache of arms and explosives and apprehended a cadre of another proscribed group, KYKL, allegedly involved in arms transportation.

According to police, the three PREPAK cadres were arrested on June 29 following an investigation into an FIR registered at Porompat Police Station regarding a hand grenade attack on a residence in Brahmapur, Imphal East district.

The accused were apprehended from the Sawombung area under Lamlai Police Station. They have been identified as Sorokhaibam Rohit Meitei alias Salai (24), Salam Yaiphaba Meitei alias Khajing (20), and a juvenile.

Investigations revealed that the group had received a consignment of six hand grenades from their handler. Of these, five were allegedly hurled at different residential locations across Imphal East and Imphal West districts in separate incidents. The remaining grenade was recovered by police, along with two scooters that were allegedly used by the accused to carry out the attacks.

In a separate operation on the same day, Manipur Police recovered a substantial cache of arms and explosives from the Sanjenlok area under Sagolmang Police Station in Imphal East district.

The seized items included an AK rifle, 15 rounds of ammunition of various calibres, a 9 mm pistol, a country-made carbine, 19 No. 36 hand grenades, two SLR tube launchers, seven .303 high-detonation cartridges, six .303 blank cartridges, 10 detonators, and nine magazines of different firearms.

Meanwhile, on June 30, police arrested an active cadre of the banned outfit KYKL from the Khabeisoi area in Imphal East district.
