A 32-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a member of the nursing staff at the ESIC Medical College in Alwar, Rajasthan, while being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The incident reportedly occurred on the night of 4 June, with the hospital administration accused of attempting to suppress the matter until intervention by district authorities prompted police action.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the survivor was administered a sedative injection before the assault, while her family waited just outside the ICU ward. She was found calling out her husband’s name later that night, prompting the ICU staff to bring him to her bedside. Curtains had been drawn around her bed at the time.
The woman, reportedly in a semi-conscious state, attempted to communicate the incident to her husband but was unable to articulate clearly due to the sedation. It was only the following morning, upon regaining full consciousness, that she recounted the incident in detail.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Mahavir Singh of Alwar Police stated, “A man filed a complaint saying that his 32-year-old wife, who was admitted to the ICU of ESIC Medical College, was raped by the nursing staff on the night of June 4. The accused had drawn curtains around the bed and injected the woman with sedatives before sexually assaulting her. The woman was semi-conscious and resisted the act. When she began crying out her husband’s name, the ICU staff brought him in. Though she tried to tell him about the incident, she could not speak clearly due to the sedation. Eventually, she fell asleep.”
A second witness, the husband of another female patient in the same ICU ward, supported the survivor’s account, claiming that “the nursing staff committed a wrong act at night.”
The woman’s husband first approached the hospital administration with the allegations, but officials allegedly attempted to hush up the matter. According to the complaint, the accused even apologised in the presence of the survivor’s family and hospital officials.
Efforts to suppress the incident reportedly continued until the survivor informed the Additional District Magistrate, who immediately instructed the police to take action.
Following the directive, police registered an FIR, conducted the survivor’s medical examination, and recorded her statement under video. In it, she identified the nursing staff member as the perpetrator.
“The accused first injected her with a sedative, rendering her unconscious, and then raped her,” the survivor told police.
Authorities have launched an investigation, including a review of CCTV footage and steps toward apprehending the accused.
Dr Aseem Das, Dean of ESIC Medical College, stated, “As soon as we received information, we formed an investigation team. The team will submit its report by Saturday. Strict action will be taken against whoever is found guilty.”
