Union Minister of the Road, Transport, and Highways Nitin Gadkari said on Monday that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a total of 33 tunnels are coming in Jammu and Kashmir, with 15 already completed.
Addressing the reporters gathering here at Sonamarg after the inauguration of the Z-Morh Tunnel, Gadkari said that good roads lead to progressive nations, and thus the Prime Minister has been keen to develop the roads in Jammu and Kashmir to ensure the progress of the nation and achieve the goal of Viksit Bharat before 2047.
He said many of the projects currently going on in Jammu and Kashmir, including the mega Srinagar Ring Road, four corridors in J&K and others, are likely to be completed and inaugurated by or before the end of 2025.
Gadkari added that the tunnel inaugurated by PM Modi today will end the miseries of the people, who had to hoard essential supplies 6 months ahead of the winter every year.
Gadkari revealed that another tunnel located at Zojila Pass, which was supposed to be completed earlier at the cost of Rs 12000 crore, is now being constructed at the cost of Rs 6800 crore, thereby saving a whopping Rs 5000 crore.
He added that this tunnel will ensure round-the-year passage to the travellers from Srinagar-Leh.
Gadkari also thanked the prime minister for his mission of boosting the infrastructure and also congratulated the people for witnessing the developments like the Sonamarg tunnel.
