The fire, possibly sparked by a short circuit, was so intense that smoke billowed from the shopping mall far away.


At least 35 people, including 12 children, were tragically killed in a massive fire at an amusement and theme park in Rajkot city, Gujarat, on Saturday.

 

The fire erupted at the 'TRP' amusement park while it was crowded with children, causing chaos and panic among visitors.

 

Authorities suspect the fire may have been caused by a short circuit.

 

A Fire Department official stated, "The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Efforts to extinguish the fire are ongoing, but we're facing challenges due to the collapse of the temporary structure and high wind speeds."

 

Rajkot District Collector Prabhav Joshi mentioned, "Though firefighters managed to contain the fire, smoke is still rising from the debris, raising concerns that more people might be trapped underneath."

 

Reports indicate that the owner of the amusement park has been detained.

The incident occurred during the weekend rush, with smoke visible from a considerable distance due to the intensity of the fire.

 

The state government has announced compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for each injured person.

 

This morning, Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel and Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi surveyed the scene at Nana-Mava road where the incident occurred.

 

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel expressed condolences and promised swift action. He announced the formation of a special investigation team to probe the incident and instructed immediate rescue and relief operations.

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed distress over the tragedy and assured support for those affected. He praised the local administration's efforts in providing assistance.

 

Union Home Minister Amit Shah conveyed his sadness and assured support for relief and rescue efforts. He expressed condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.

 

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also expressed sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved families, hoping for the swift recovery of the injured.
