Several passengers were hurt after a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus overturned in Kangra district on Monday, officials said. The bus was carrying around 40 people, including four children.
The accident took place in the Dadasiba area on Monday morning. The bus was travelling from Talwara to Baddi via Dadasiba when it overturned near Gurala. SHO Dadasiba, Sandeep Pathania, said that 38 to 40 passengers were injured in the mishap.
With the help of local residents, the injured were quickly taken to Civil Hospital Dadasiba in ambulances and private vehicles. One of the injured had to be referred to Tanda Medical College for specialised care.
Passengers said the bus reached the Gurala turn when a loud noise was heard, and the bus suddenly flipped over. They added that the driver was not overspeeding. Initial investigation suggests that a technical fault in the bus may have caused the accident. Jaswan Pragpur MLA Vikram Thakur later visited the hospital to meet the injured.
In another accident in Kangra district, a speeding truck crashed into Balaji Haveli, a hotel owned by a Congress leader, in Dehra late Sunday night. The impact broke the hotel’s main gate and wall, with the truck reaching the reception area. A car and furniture parked outside were also damaged. Fortunately, no one was present at the time, or the incident could have turned into a major tragedy.
