In a crackdown on illegal drug cultivation, the Baga police have seized 381 opium plants from a field in the Darlaghat area on Friday. The accused, identified as Avtar Singh (50), a resident of Kandaar village, was arrested and booked under Section 18 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Solan SP Gaurav Singh said the police acted on a tip-off received during evening patrolling, which led them to the field located in front of the residence of the accused. A raid was conducted, and a large quantity of opium plants was found.
Singh was presented in court on Saturday to seek police remand. During the preliminary investigation, it was also revealed that a separate case of assault is pending against him at the Darlaghat police station.
Police said further investigation is underway to determine if others were involved in the illegal cultivation.
