A tragic road accident in the Gund Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district claimed the lives of three tourists and their cab driver while leaving 21 others injured, officials reported on Sunday.
The accident occurred near a CRPF camp when a passenger bus and an Etios vehicle collided head-on. The impact was devastating, particularly for the Etios car, which was carrying tourists, resulting in severe damage and the immediate death of four occupants, including the driver.
Authorities identified the deceased as Hetal Ashish Pari, Nikki Ashish, and Leisha Ashish, all hailing from Satya Nagar, Borivali West, Mumbai. The fourth victim was the cab driver, Faheem Ahmad Badyari of Soiteng, Srinagar.
Following the accident, local residents, along with rescue teams, promptly arrived at the scene to assist the victims. The injured were immediately transported to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Kangan for urgent medical treatment.
Officials are closely monitoring the situation and further updates are expected as investigations continue.
Expressing his grief over the incident, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah extended his condolences to the bereaved families.
"Deeply saddened by the tragic road accident on the highway near Gund, Kangan, which has claimed several lives and left many others injured. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for the swift recovery of the injured. Authorities are providing all possible assistance," read a post from the Chief Minister’s office on X.
