Four people lost their lives when the vehicle they were traveling in plunged into a deep gorge on the Anandpur-Mehli road in the suburbs of Shimla, officials reported on Wednesday.
Among the deceased were a woman and her teenage daughter. The tragic accident occurred late on Tuesday night near Lalpani Bridge when the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and tumble into the gorge.
All four occupants died on the spot due to the impact. The victims were identified as 45-year-old Rupa Suryawanshi, wife of Bhagwan Das, and her 14-year-old daughter Pragati.
Also among the deceased were 10-year-old Mukul, son of Het Ram, both residents of Nav Bahar in Shimla, and 40-year-old Jai Singh Negi, son of Padam Negi, a resident of Sanjauli in Shimla.
Following the accident, teams from the police and the state disaster response force rushed to the site and retrieved the bodies from the gorge. The remains were subsequently transported to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla for post-mortem examination.
