Four members of a family, including three minors, died of suspected food poisoning in a village in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Sunday.
Additionally, a child and his mother have also been hospitalised, they said.
Official sources told reporters that the entire family fell unconscious at their home in Kandi village in the Kotranka Budhal area and were immediately shifted to the SMHS hospital.
Four of them died, and more members—mother and child—are still under treatment, they added. Following the treatment condition of the woman, (mother) is stated to be out of danger.
A police officer also informed the reporters that Fazal Hussain, son of Nazam Din, and five members of the family were shifted to the hospital, and four of them died.
The deceased include Fazal Hussain, 40, his two daughters—Rabia Kousar (15) and Farmana Kouser (10)—besides his 4-year-old son, Raftar Ahmed.
Hussain’s wife Shamim Akhter (38) and 12-year-old son Ruksar Ahmed are under treatment, he said. The condition of Ruksar remains serious, the officer, quoting doctors at the hospital, said.
He said that a case has been registered and further investigations are underway.
