Around 400 militants are set to lay down their arms before Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha in Sepahijala district on Tuesday, according to officials.
The militants belong to the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF). Their surrender follows a memorandum of settlement signed with the Centre and the state government in Delhi on September 4, in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
"Approximately 400 insurgents from NLFT and ATTF will lay down their arms before the Chief Minister at the headquarters of the 7th battalion of Tripura State Rifles (TSR) in Jampuijala," an official from the Home Department confirmed.
A senior police officer noted that all leaders of the two outlawed groups will surrender, aiming to pave the way for lasting peace in the region.
The two groups had caused significant unrest in the state for two decades, particularly since the late 1990s, leading to the displacement of thousands of people, especially non-tribals, due to the insurgency.
In support of this initiative, the Centre has announced a financial package of ₹250 crore for the rehabilitation of militants from both outfits.
