Continuous unrest in Bangladesh has triggered anxiety among parents and  families of medical students from Kashmir who are concerned for their safety and well-being . Around 4000 Kashmiri  medical students are said to be studying in Bangladesh. The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday urging the government to ensure safety and return of students back to India.

The students' plea to the Prime minister comes amid ongoing protests, tensions, and incidents of violence, particularly in Dhaka and surrounding regions. The J&K student body noted that it has been receiving distress calls and messages from students and their families, who are extremely anxious about the rapidly deteriorating situation and the atmosphere of fear and uncertainty prevailing there. According to the Association, out of the 9,000 Indian students pursuing medical education in various colleges across Bangladesh, 4,000 are from the Kashmir Valley.

Bringing forth fears and anxieties of the parents living in India, President of the Association Nasir Khuehami stated, "Many students are confined to hostels and accommodations, facing restrictions on movement, lack of clarity, and fear of being caught in violence". Calling the prevailing unsafe and uncertain, the student body's letter urges for India's intervention into the matter, and if necessary, also called for facilitating safe evacuation of Indian students from Bangladesh.

The All India Medical Students’ Association (AIMSA) has also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “immediate and urgent intervention” to ensure the safety and well-being of Indian medical students currently stranded in Bangladesh, amid escalating unrest and rising anti-India sentiment in the neighbouring country.

In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, AIMSA said it has been receiving “serious and distressing communications” from Indian medical students and their families, warning that the prevailing situation has left many living under unsafe and uncertain conditions. The Association said the developments have triggered widespread fear, anxiety, and emotional distress among students as well as parents back in India.

“On behalf of the All India Medical Students’ Association, we respectfully seek your immediate and urgent intervention concerning the safety and well-being of Indian medical students currently stranded in Bangladesh,” the letter stated.“Their security remains vulnerable, leading to immense fear, anxiety, and emotional distress among the students as well as their families.”

The Association also called for strengthened on-ground support through the Indian Embassy and related missions, as well as timely, clear and transparent communication with students and their families to prevent panic and misinformation. Stressing the urgency of the matter, AIMSA requested that it be treated as a top-priority emergency to safeguard the students’ lives, dignity and future.
