A total of 430 Assam government employees have been arrested on corruption charges since 2019, while another 25 officials have been held for possessing disproportionate assets, according to official documents.
The documents show that most of the cases are currently under trial, and no convictions have been recorded so far.
Of the 430 officers and employees booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act, the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing of Assam Police has arrested 302 persons, the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell has apprehended 88, while 40 were arrested through various police stations in the state.
The records also show that 23 of the arrested employees have been dismissed from service.
“Judicial proceedings are going on against the arrested employees, though no one has been convicted yet,” the documents stated. Charge sheets have been filed against 291 of the arrested personnel.
Since 2019, a separate set of 25 employees has been arrested for allegedly amassing assets beyond known sources of income, with charge sheets filed in all such cases. Departmental proceedings are underway in accordance with service rules.
