Work on the Tripura-Mizoram natural gas pipeline under the North East Natural Gas Pipeline Grid has reached 45 per cent completion, with the project scheduled to be finished by December 2027.
The 119.5-km pipeline is being executed by Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGCL) and is expected to significantly improve access to clean and affordable energy in Mizoram, particularly in and around Aizawl.
The pipeline originates at the Panisagar receiving terminal in Tripura and traverses Kanhmun, Zawlnuam, Kawrthah, Tuidam and Darlak before reaching near Mamit in Mizoram. From there, it extends towards Lengte and terminates at the proposed Sihhmui receiving terminal, located about 21 km from Aizawl.
Gas supply for households within Aizawl city will be provided from the Sihhmui terminal by Tripura Natural Gas Corporation Limited (TNGCL), which will oversee domestic pipeline connections.

Mizoram’s Civil Supplies Minister B Lalchhanzova visited Agartala on Wednesday to review progress on the project. During the visit, he held meetings with officials of TNGCL and ONGC, inspected pipeline-related works, and toured a CNG station in the Tripura capital.
He also visited a residential complex in Agartala where around 330 households have already been provided gas pipeline connections, offering a model for the rollout planned in Mizoram.
At a meeting with TNGCL officials, Lalchhanzova said the project, once completed, would be a milestone for Mizoram, ensuring adequate gas supply for residents at a more affordable price. He added that apart from domestic use, the gas would be utilised for commercial, industrial, transport and other purposes.
The minister expressed hope that the pipeline would generate employment and facilitate the establishment of major industries in the state. He urged IGCL and TNGCL to execute the project diligently and ensure its completion within the stipulated timeframe.
