At least five people, including four members of the same family, were killed in a tragic road accident on the Pollachi-Pallani National Highway in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore district on Sunday, police said.
According to officials, the accident occurred when a speeding car lost control and crashed into a stationary lorry carrying a water tanker that was engaged in watering plants along the central median. The impact of the collision was severe, killing all five occupants of the car on the spot.
Four of the deceased have been identified as Kanagaraj, his wife Poornima, and their daughters Amritha and Aarthi, residents of Gurubampalayam near Madukkarai in Coimbatore. The identity of the fifth victim is yet to be ascertained.

Police said the family was returning from Udumalpet when the car suddenly went out of control near Nallampalli and rammed into the lorry parked on the median.
A team from the Komangalam police station rushed to the scene shortly after the accident. The bodies were recovered from the mangled vehicle and sent to Pollachi Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.
“The vehicle was completely damaged in the crash. We have registered a case and collected CCTV footage from cameras installed along the highway. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident and to identify who was driving the car,” a police officer said.
Authorities later cleared the wreckage and restored traffic movement on the highway.
