50 detained, 2 FIRs filed in Vadodara stone-pelting incident

The police are continuing to monitor the situation and have appealed to the public to disregard any rumours.

News Arena Network - Vadodara - UPDATED: September 20, 2025, 05:04 PM - 2 min read

According to a police statement, the disturbance began after the social media post caused a crowd to gather at the police station to make a complaint.

Following a stone-pelting incident that occurred on Friday night, Gujarat Police confirmed on Saturday that the situation in the Junagarhi area is now "overall peaceful and under control".

DCP Andrew Macwan said to the reporters that over 50 people have been detained in connection with the unrest, which was triggered by an offensive social media post.

"An objectionable post appeared on social media, prompting people to protest near the City Police Station. During this time, stone-pelting also occurred in the Junigarhi area. Police took immediate action and brought the situation under control," added Macwan.

The DCP also confirmed that two separate First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed. He noted that both civilians and police officers were among the injured. The police are continuing to monitor the situation and have appealed to the public to disregard any rumours.

According to a police statement, the disturbance began after the social media post caused a crowd to gather at the police station to make a complaint. As the group was dispersing, some individuals reportedly attacked a Navratri pandal, damaged nearby vehicles, and began throwing stones.

DCP Macwan assured the public that police patrols would be conducted across the city to ensure people can celebrate their festivals peacefully, and that the "strictest possible action" will be taken against those responsible.
