The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) will send a Sikh jatha to Pakistan on June 10 to take part in the Shaheedi Gurpurab of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji. SGPC officials said this would be the first such pilgrimage to Pakistan after a long gap.
According to the SGPC, it had forwarded 561 passport applications to the Pakistan High Commission through the prescribed process for visa clearance. Of these, 541 pilgrims have been granted visas, while 20 applicants were not issued travel permits.
The passports of the approved pilgrims will be distributed at the SGPC office on June 9. The jatha, comprising 541 devotees, will depart from the SGPC headquarters in Amritsar on June 10.
During their visit, the pilgrims will pay obeisance at several historic gurdwaras in Pakistan and participate in religious programmes marking the martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the fifth Sikh Guru. The group is scheduled to return to India on June 19.
