Four individuals were arrested and two juveniles apprehended from Haryana in connection with an armed assault case in Katra town of Reasi district, police said.
According to officials, the accused carried out a violent attack at RK Palace Hotel in Katra on May 2, in which Jaswinder Singh alias Sundri sustained serious injuries. Police said some individuals armed with sharp-edged weapons forcibly entered the hotel and attacked the victim before fleeing the spot. The injured man was taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Katra for treatment, officials said.
A case had been filed at Katra police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act, following which an inquiry was launched on priority.
Officials said the accused fled to Haryana after committing the crime in an attempt to evade arrest. Acting on specific information and using technical surveillance along with human intelligence, police tracked them down and arrested them from Haryana. The weapons used in the attack were also seized. The arrested accused have been identified as Akshay (21), Sahil (21), Suraj (26) and Rahul (23), all residents of Katra.
Police also apprehended two juveniles involved in the case. Their identities have been withheld as per provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act. Senior Superintendent of Police, Reasi, Mukund Tibrewal said the district police remain committed to maintaining peace and law and order, and ensuring the safety of residents as well as pilgrims visiting Katra.
Further investigation in the case is ongoing, police added.
