Nearly 65 per cent of telecom sites that were damaged due to last week’s heavy rain, landslides, and flash floods in Chamba, Kullu, and Lahaul-Spiti districts have been restored, an official said on Wednesday.
On August 25 and 26, the network in these districts was badly hit, Principal Advisor (Information Technology and Innovation) to the Himachal CM, Gokul Butail, said in a statement.
In Chamba district, there are 1,761 sites run by Airtel, Reliance Jio, BSNL and Vodafone Idea. As of September 2, only 374 sites remained non-functional, compared to 1,155 sites that were down on August 27.
In Kullu, about 85 per cent of Airtel’s 877 sites are now working, while 65 per cent of Reliance Jio’s 1,173 sites are functional. Out of 391 BSNL sites, about 20 per cent have been restored.
In Lahaul-Spiti, 96.8 per cent of Airtel’s 63 sites and 84.1 per cent of Jio’s 170 sites are operational. Butail said restoring telecom services is a top priority for the state government.
