The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed two separate chargesheets in cases related to the alleged misuse of funds involving the Haryana Government and Chandigarh Smart City Limited (CSCL). The total alleged loss in the two cases is estimated at Rs 657 crore.
As per the CBI, the chargesheet in the Haryana Government case has been submitted before the Special CBI Court in Panchkula. The latest chargesheet names two private individuals who are alleged to have benefited from the proceeds of the crime.
This is the second chargesheet filed in the case. Earlier, the agency had named 15 accused, including three government officials, six bank officials, two companies and four private individuals.
In a separate case linked to Chandigarh Smart City Limited, the CBI has filed its first chargesheet before the Special CBI Court in Chandigarh. A total of seven people have been named, including five bank officials, one CSCL official and one private individual.
The agency said the cases involve allegations of criminal conspiracy, breach of trust, forgery, cheating and offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Investigators said the alleged fraud caused a loss of Rs 504 crore to the Haryana Government and Rs 153 crore to the Chandigarh administration, taking the total amount involved to Rs 657 crore.
The CBI took over the Haryana case from the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau. The Chandigarh-related cases were transferred to the agency from the Economic Offences Police Station.
The agency said the investigation is still underway and more chargesheets could be filed as the probe moves forward.
