Three Bangladeshis, including a woman and a child, were apprehended at Rangichera Border Out Post in Khowai district.

The Border Security Force (BSF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) have arrested seven Bangladeshi nationals and two Rohingyas for illegally entering Tripura, officials said on Saturday.

A BSF spokesperson reported that border troops apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals, including a woman and a girl, at the Rangichera Border Outpost (BOP) in Tripura’s Khowai district as they attempted to cross the border fence.

During an on-the-spot interrogation, the detainees disclosed that two of their associates had already crossed the border and reached Bagicherra village.

A subsequent operation, conducted in collaboration with state police, led to the capture of two more Bangladeshi nationals and a tout from Bagicherra village.

All of the detained Bangladeshis are residents of Moulvibazar in Sylhet district and belong to the same family. The tout, who had been working as a carpenter in Tripura’s Halahalli, was also identified as a Bangladeshi national from Moulvibazar.

In a separate incident on Friday night, the BSF apprehended a Bangladeshi smuggler with imported cigarettes worth ₹33 lakh at the Kalkalia BOP in West Tripura district.

Additionally, the GRP arrested two Rohingyas, including a woman, at Agartala railway station on Friday night.

The Rohingyas reportedly fled their camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, where over one million displaced Rohingyas from Myanmar have been living since 2017.

Over the past three months, more than 310 Bangladeshi nationals and 34 Rohingyas have been apprehended by the GRP, BSF, and Tripura Police for illegally entering Indian territory, primarily from Agartala railway station and other locations in the state.
