Seven people, including two children, were killed after a compound wall of a hospital collapsed in Bengaluru on Wednesday, prompting Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to order an inquiry and announce compensation of Rs 5 lakh for each victim’s family.
The incident occurred at the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital amid heavy rain, strong winds and hailstorms that lashed parts of the city.
According to officials, the victims had taken shelter near the wall during the storm when the structure suddenly gave way, killing all seven on the spot. Seven others sustained injuries but are reported to be out of danger.
Siddaramaiah visited the site and directed authorities to conduct a detailed probe into the circumstances leading to the collapse. He said accountability would be fixed based on the findings of the inquiry.

“The injured are out of danger,” the Chief Minister said, while assuring that the government would extend all necessary assistance to those affected.
Emergency response teams, including police and civic authorities, rushed to the site immediately after the incident. Rescue operations were carried out using earthmovers, with the help of local residents, to retrieve bodies and pull out the injured from the debris.
Preliminary information suggests that the extreme weather conditions may have weakened the structure, though officials said the exact cause would be determined after the inquiry.
