Seven Naxalites, including three women, surrendered in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh on Friday. They were involved in several attacks on security forces and had a combined bounty of Rs 32 lakh.
The surrender was made in front of senior police and Border Security Force (BSF) officials. The Naxalites said they were disappointed with the Maoist ideology, which they described as “hollow” and “inhuman,” and expressed their frustration over the exploitation of tribals by senior Naxal leaders, according to Kanker Senior Superintendent of Police, Indira Kalyan Elesela.
Among those who surrendered, Mamta alias Shanta alias Vasanna Battulai (60), Dinesh Matttami (20), and Aaytu Ram Potai (27) were each carrying a reward of Rs 8 lakh. Mamta, who is from Karimnagar district in Telangana, was a divisional committee member and led the ‘Krantikari Adivasi Mahila Sangthan’ (KAMS), a wing of the banned Maoist group in the north Bastar division.
Between 1996 and 2024, she was involved in 26 Naxal attacks, including the 2015 IED blast in Koyalibeda, Kanker, which killed two soldiers, and the 2018 Mahla ambush that killed two BSF personnel.

Matttami was part of the Maoist military company no. 10, while Potai was with military company no. 5. Another surrendered member, Jamuna alias Neera Netam (50), was a member of the Partapur area committee and involved in multiple attacks, including the 2007 ambush in Bhuski-Michgaon village, which killed five policemen and injured 18. Jamuna had a reward of Rs 5 lakh.
The other surrenders included Itwarin Padda (25), a member of Partapur's local guerilla squad; Sanjay Nareti (23), a member of Panidobir/Rowghat's local organisation squad; and Sagnu Ram Anchla (24), a Panidobir local organisation squad member. Each of them had a ₹1 lakh reward.
Each of the surrendered Naxalites received Rs 25,000 in assistance and will be rehabilitated according to the government’s policy. Last year, 792 Naxalites had surrendered in the Bastar region, which includes seven districts, including Kanker.
