77-year-old specially-abled woman crawls 2 km over unpaid pension in Karnataka

A septuagenarian crawled to reach the post office to get her pension dues. The woman, who is dependent on the pension for a living, got blisters on her feet while crawling.

An old woman from Karnataka had to crawls to reach the post office for her pension.


Girijamma, 77, resident of Davanagere district of Karnataka had to crawl for two kilometres to reach Kunibelekere village post office to enquire why her pension has been stopped abruptly since November 2023. A payment of Rs 10,000 used to be made through the post office. Girijamma, who is specially-abled, is dependent on the pension for a living. 

 

This tragic incident garnered limelight after a video, highlighting blisters on Girijamma’s feet from the arduous crawl went viral on Wednesday.

 

The childless woman, while narrating her ordeal, which happened a week ago, said, “I have not received my pension of Rs 10,000 from the past two months. As a result, I was left with no money to take public transport in order to reach the post office, which is two kilometres away from my house. I wanted to enquire about the problem from the officials present there.”
