Girijamma, 77, resident of Davanagere district of Karnataka had to crawl for two kilometres to reach Kunibelekere village post office to enquire why her pension has been stopped abruptly since November 2023. A payment of Rs 10,000 used to be made through the post office. Girijamma, who is specially-abled, is dependent on the pension for a living.
This tragic incident garnered limelight after a video, highlighting blisters on Girijamma’s feet from the arduous crawl went viral on Wednesday.
The childless woman, while narrating her ordeal, which happened a week ago, said, “I have not received my pension of Rs 10,000 from the past two months. As a result, I was left with no money to take public transport in order to reach the post office, which is two kilometres away from my house. I wanted to enquire about the problem from the officials present there.”
