Such an incident results in the loss of boats and gear, extended detentions, and bears a heavy psychological burden for the concerned families.
"I urge your early action to secure the safe repatriation of the detained fishermen and their vessel." With the season of annual fishing ban also now over and the season having restarted, fishermen ventured into the sea hoping to earn their livelihood.
"In light of the fact that the fishing season has newly started, I call on the Ministry to undertake positive diplomatic action with the Sri Lankan government to promote restraint and mutual understanding in the resolution of issues relating to fishing."
