Nearly 80 students from a district council school in Keket Jalgaon village were hospitalised after consuming biscuits provided as part of a nutritional meal program on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m., when the children, after eating the biscuits, began experiencing nausea and vomiting.
The school's authorities, upon noticing the students' distress, swiftly alerted the village head and other officials, who arranged immediate transportation to a nearby rural hospital.
Dr Babasaheb Ghughe, the attending medical officer, confirmed that out of 257 students who showed symptoms of food poisoning, 153 were admitted to the hospital for treatment.
While most of the students were treated and discharged, seven with more severe symptoms were transferred to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Civil Hospital for further care. Fortunately, the condition of all the students is currently stable.
The school, which has a total of 296 students, is now under scrutiny as an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the food poisoning.
The biscuits in question are being examined to identify any potential contamination or other issues that may have led to this alarming incident.
