The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday called for the rehabilitation of individuals who have lost their homes due to demolition drives conducted by central government agencies in the past year.
Delhi Minister Atishi, addressing a press conference, highlighted the plight of these individuals and demanded their inclusion in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) housing scheme.
Atishi specifically mentioned the recent demolition of the residence belonging to Wakeel Hassan, a rat-hole miner who gained recognition during the Silkyara tunnel rescue operation.
While welcoming the Lieutenant Governor's assurance of providing Hassan with a new house, Atishi emphasized the need for a broader solution.
"We urge the government to consider the numerous individuals who have similarly lost their homes in demolition drives by central agencies like the DDA, ASI, and Railways," Atishi stated, "Their rehabilitation should be ensured through inclusion in the PM Awas Yojana scheme."
Hassan's house, located in Delhi's Khajoori Khas area, was demolished during a DDA drive, leaving him and his family displaced. The incident sparked concern, with neighbors offering temporary assistance in the form of food and essential supplies.
The AAP's demand highlights the human cost associated with such demolition drives and underscores the need for a comprehensive plan to ensure the proper rehabilitation of affected individuals and families.
