Senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema on Friday said the defection of seven Rajya Sabha MPs from the Aam Aadmi Party exposes a serious crisis within the party’s leadership and organisational structure.
In a statement, Cheema said the largescale exit of MPs — six from Punjab and one from Delhi — was not an isolated incident but reflected deeper problems related to trust, internal democracy and ideological clarity within the party.
He said AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal must take moral responsibility for the situation and step down as party chief, alleging that the party’s centralised decision-making had weakened its internal functioning.
Cheema also targeted Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, claiming that the development shows the state leadership has lost moral authority to govern.
“When a party’s own MPs leave in such large numbers, it indicates a serious disconnect between the leadership and party workers,” he said.
The Akali leader alleged that Punjab should not be turned into a laboratory for political experiments and said the people of the state deserve stable and accountable governance. He added that the situation calls for accountability within the AAP leadership.
