Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Ward No. 42 in-charge Jaipal Singh Bau was injured in an alleged firing incident in Amritsar on Thursday afternoon. He was taken to a private hospital in the city, where he is receiving treatment.
As per preliminary reports, the incident is said to be linked to a personal rivalry connected to a dispute over vehicle parking with a neighbour. During the altercation, both sides allegedly opened fire at each other.
CCTV footage of the incident has also come out. It reportedly shows Jaipal Singh Bau and his neighbour firing during the confrontation. Police have started an inquiry and are reviewing the video as part of the investigation.
Jaipal Singh Bau had earlier contested the Municipal Corporation polls from Ward No. 42 on an AAP ticket. He did not win but was later appointed as the party’s ward in-charge.
Punjab Cabinet Minister and local MLA Inderbir Singh Nijjar visited the hospital to check on his condition. He spoke with doctors about his health and took details of the incident.
Nijjar said a firing incident had taken place in his constituency. He confirmed that the injured person is Jaipal Singh, who had contested polls on an AAP ticket and is currently serving as ward in-charge.
Police have started further investigation into the case and are trying to establish the exact sequence of events.
