Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Malwinder Singh Kang from Anandpur Sahib has submitted a notice to the Lok Sabha Secretary-General, requesting an adjournment of the House proceedings to discuss the sacrilege issue in Punjab.
In his letter, the AAP MP urged the central government to intervene and seek Presidential assent for two critical Bills passed by the Punjab government.
These Bills, the IPC Amendment Bill and the CrPC Amendment Bill, propose strict penalties for sacrilege of all religious texts. The Punjab Assembly had passed these Bills on August 28, 2018, but they are still awaiting approval from President Droupadi Murmu.
The sacrilege issue in Punjab remains a highly sensitive topic, significantly influencing the state's political environment. The Aam Aadmi Party has been vocal about addressing the Punjab sacrilege case and ensuring justice for such acts.
MP Kang’s plea highlights the need for swift action to resolve this long-pending matter.
