First-time Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Councillor Vaneet Dhir on Saturday, was elected as the seventh Mayor of Punjab's Jalandhar. Meanwhile, Balbir Bittu was elected as the Senior Deputy Mayor, and Malkiat Subhana as the Deputy Mayor. 

 

After 2 years, the city got a Mayor. 

 

The politician as well as businessman Dhir is the ruling AAP's Hindu face, Balbir Bittu represents the Sikh community, while Malkiat Singh is a representative of the Scheduled Caste community. 

 

Dhir represents Ward 62 in Jalandhar West, Balbir Bittu is from Ward 10 in Jalandhar Central, and Malkiat Subhana is the Councillor for Ward 38 in Jalandhar Cantt.  

 

The tenure of the previous Mayor, Jagdish Raja, ended on 24th January 2023. Raja, who was with the Congress at the time, had contested the AAP this time but faced defeated.
