In one of the first incidents of its kind, Gujarat police have successfully detained a fugitive from mid-sea.
The operation was executed by the Gir-Somnath Police team sailing 30 nautical miles into the Arabian Sea from the Gujarat coast on Saturday.
Congratulating Gir Somnath SP and his team, DGP Gujarat Vikas Sahay announced, “Shivkumar Chennan Kounder of Karnataka was absconding in a case of Narcotics of Gir Somnath district. Probably for 1st time in the history of Gujarat Police, this absconder was detained by police from the high sea, approx 30 nautical miles from the coast with the help of a patrolling boat.”
It is to be noted that a few weeks back, heroin worth ₹350 crore was captured by Gir Somnath police. While interrogating a culprit in a drugs case they came to know that Shiva was one of the main handlers of drugs in the case.
According to Gir Somnath SP Manoharsinh Jadeja, “Gir Somnath police was on the lookout for Shiva. We came to know that the suspect Shiva had been absconding in the high seas for about one and a half months. Before this also we send the police teams 2-3 times in mid-seas searching for Shiva.”
Thursday late at night the Gir Somnath got the pin-pointed location of Shiva through their sources.
Hence, the police decided to leave no stone unturned and go all out to catch the absconder. Three teams of police officers were made ready. One team was sent to the sea in a patrolling boat, while the other two were on standby.
Finally, the police team was able to get hold of Shiva early in the morning from mid-sea.
Detained suspect Shiva is currently under Gir Somnath police interrogation.
