Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad's (ABVP) candidate Maithily Mrinalini has made history by becoming the first woman president of the Patna University Students' Union (PUSU) in the institution's 100-year history.

The student union elections, held on Saturday, saw a fierce contest, with the counting of votes continuing late into the night.

Despite the Jan Suraaj Party, led by Prashant Kishor, withdrawing its nominee in favor of National Students' Union of India (NSUI) candidate Manoranjan Kumar, Mrinalini secured a comfortable victory.

Key Election Results

  • President: Maithily Mrinalini (ABVP) defeated Manoranjan Kumar (NSUI)
  • Vice President: Dhiraj Kumar (Independent)
  • General Secretary: Saloni Raj (Independent) defeated Ankit Kumar (ABVP)
  • Treasurer: Saumya Shrivastava (NSUI) defeated Om Prakash Yadav (ABVP)

Interestingly, all three winning candidates—Mrinalini, Saloni Raj, and Saumya Shrivastava—are students of Patna Women's College.

A Victory for Democracy

Speaking to reporters after her historic win, Mrinalini described her victory as a triumph of democracy over money and muscle power. She is also the first ABVP candidate in over a decade to claim the PUSU president's post.

“My priority will be to improve facilities in libraries and laboratories for both boys and girls while fostering an environment that promotes academic excellence,” she added.
