Jammu and Kashmir Anti Corruption Bureau in its swift action laid a trap and nabbed an official of Revenue Department red handed while taking bribe from the complainant. During the search of his personal vehicle, a huge cash amounting to more than 35 lakhs rupees was also recovered, apart from search was also conducted in the residential house of the accused public servant in presence of Magistrates.
As per the details in the case officials registered a case FIR No. 19/2025 U/S 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against public servant, namely, Sunil Kumar, Patwari, Patwar Halqa Dadui, Tehsil & District Samba, for demanding and accepting illegal gratification from the complainant.
The said accused public servant, demanded the bribe amounting to Rs 1,00,000 from the complainant, for preparing a report, sought by Tehsildar Samba on the application of complainant, with respect to correction of Girdawari. However, after negotiation, the said Patwari has agreed to receive Rs 80,000 instead of Rs 1,00,000 from the complainant for doing the needful. The complainant could manage Rs 20,000 as bribe money from the agreed amount of Rs. 80,000 for payment to the said Patwari.
Since, the complainant didn’t want to pay bribe and approached Anti-Corruption Bureau for taking legal action against the accused public servant under law.On receipt of the complaint, a discreet verification was conducted, which corroborated the demand of bribe by the public servant concerned and accordingly, a case FIR No. 19/2025 U/S 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered in Police Station ACB Jammu and investigation taken up.
During the course of investigation, a trap team was constituted. The team laid a successful trap and accused public servant was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe amount from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses. The accused was arrested on the spot by the ACB team after following due process of law. The bribe money was also recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses associated with the trap team. Further investigation of the instant case is reported to be going on.
