Bengali filmstar Jeet on Sunday backed the newly formed BJP government in West Bengal, expressing confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “guarantee” and voicing hope for a “new dawn” in the state.
In a social media post, the actor, whose real name is Jitendra Madnani, said the BJP’s victory was not merely a political success but a “major commitment” towards the people of Bengal. He highlighted the state’s rich legacy of culture, intellect and contribution to the nation, while lamenting what he described as a diminished projection of its pride and heritage over the years.
“The people of this soil have given a lot to the country through their intellect, hard work and sacrifice. But it is extremely painful that Bengal’s pride, self-respect, culture and educational heritage have long been projected in a diminished manner,” he wrote.
Jeet said he was hopeful that the new government would usher in a “new morning” and provide a fresh direction for the state. “Today, I am hopeful that the BJP government will bring a new dawn for Bengal and show a new direction of light. Crores of people continue to place their trust and expectations on the promise made by our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji,” he added.

Calling for the restoration of the state’s past glory, the actor said he wished to see Bengal regain its status as “Sonar Bangla”. “I want West Bengal, our beloved Bengal, to again become ‘Sonar Bangla’ and regain its lost glory. That is my hope,” he said.
Jeet had earlier congratulated the BJP on its “historic victory” in the state and described it as the beginning of a new phase of development and progress. He was also present at the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari at Brigade Parade Grounds on May 9, which was attended by top BJP leaders including Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Several other figures from the Bengali film industry, such as Prosenjit Chatterjee and Mamata Shankar, were also present at the ceremony.
Unlike actor Dev, who is a Trinamool Congress MP, Jeet has largely stayed away from openly expressing political views in the past, making his endorsement of the new government particularly noteworthy.
