Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Health and Education Sakeena Itoo on Monday said adequate health-related arrangements will be put in place for the wellbeing of devotees during the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra.
The upcoming Yatra will commence on July 3 and conclude on August 9 on the eve of Raksha Bandhan.
The minister visited Sonamarg to assess the preparedness of medical facilities for the pilgrims. She was accompanied by Kangan MLA Mian Mehar Ali and several top officials.
Speaking with reporters, she said the government is committed to ensuring adequate medical facilities for the devotees to ensure the smooth conduct of the yatra. Earlier, on Saturday, she said the government has made full preparations to ensure proper medical arrangements for the upcoming Yatra.
“I came here to review the medical arrangements, how many doctors are available, how many more are to come from outside, what kind of medicines are stocked, how many camps and ambulances are ready; everything has been checked,” she said.
“Every camp has been provided with more doctors than required. The hospitals designated for the yatra already have sufficient staff, and those gaps that existed earlier have been filled,” she added.
“Since the day this government was formed under the leadership of Omar Abdullah, we have received appointment orders for 600 doctors. These doctors have been sent to remote areas,” she said.
She further said this year, every necessary arrangement has been made to provide a safe and smooth Yatra experience. “This is the government's effort; no pilgrim should suffer for lack of medical help. All facilities are in place,” she added.
