The Adi Kailash and Om Parvat Yatra in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand has been suspended due to the monsoon season. Officials said the decision was taken keeping in view the increased risk of landslides and the safety of pilgrims.
Dharchula Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Ashish Joshi said 52,441 devotees visited Adi Kailash and Om Parvat during the first two months of the pilgrimage, which began on May 1.
He added that permits were last issued to 103 pilgrims on July 1 before the Yatra was suspended.
The Adi Kailash Yatra in Pithoragarh started in 1981 alongside the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in Tibet. However, it witnessed a sharp rise in popularity after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the sacred site on October 12, 2023.
