A fire broke out in a forest area near Gandoh Bhalessa village in J&K’s Doda district on Monday, officials said.
Forest conservator Chenab Circle Doda, Sandeep Singh informed reporters that the officials of the forest department had been deployed to douse off the raging flames.
He said, “We have dispatched forest department teams from the Gandoh and Cheralla divisions, along with forest protection forces, to douse the fire. Despite challenging terrain and severe weather conditions, officials are working tirelessly to extinguish the fire.”
The rugged terrain of the Doda forests is making it difficult for the employees to access the area and combat the fire. However, we are trying our best to bring the fire under control within the next few hours,” he said.
“The Forest Department is doing its best to control the fire and prevent further damage,” he added.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a fire also broke out in Preetpal Hills, located in the Gursai Sector area of Poonch district, late Monday evening.
Officials there told reporters that on “Monday evening, fire suddenly erupted in the Preetpal hills/forests.”
Shortly after, teams of Jammu and Kashmir police along with officials from the forest department rushed to the spot to extinguish the blazing fire.
Before these incidents, forest fires caused extensive damage to the green cover of Jammu and Kashmir in 2024, as prolonged heat and dry weather conditions triggered fires in multiple forest areas.
