Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, on Wednesday, announced a 10% reservation for Agniveers in various state government services, such as - police, forest guard, and jail warden, along with quotas in other posts.
"We have made this provision," Saini said.
The state government will also extend assistance of interest-free loans of up to Rs 5 lakh to those Agniveers who wish to set up their own business.
Additionally, the government will offer age relaxation benefits to Agniveers. For Group C and D posts, the age relaxation will be three years. However, for the first batch of Agniveers, the age relaxation will be five years.
In direct recruitment for Group C civil posts, there will be a five per cent horizontal reservation for Agniveers, the chief minister said.
"If any industrial unit employs an Agniveer at a salary of more than Rs 30,000 per month, then our government will give that unit an annual subsidy of Rs 60,000," Saini said.
CM further said that the Agniveers will receive arms licenses on a priority basis, in addition to the previously announced 10% reservation in state government services and age relaxation benefits.
The Agnipath scheme, introduced by the central government in June 2022, attracted huge criticism from various quarters, including opposition parties. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had promised to scrap the scheme if the opposition INDIA bloc came to power.
However, the Haryana government has shown its support for the scheme, with former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar promising guaranteed employment to Agniveers after their four-year stint in the armed forces. The Agnipath scheme recruits youths between 17.5 and 21 years for four years, with the option to retain 25% of them for an additional 15 years.
The Haryana government's announcements aim to provide employment opportunities and incentives to Agniveers, despite the controversy surrounding the scheme.
