With the southwest monsoon expected to reach Kerala next week, the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) on Wednesday announced the deployment of eight National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams across the state as part of precautionary measures.
According to a release issued by the KSDMA, one NDRF team each will be stationed in the districts of Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Wayanad.
Each team will comprise 30 trained rescue personnel and will be fully self-sufficient, carrying essential search and rescue equipment, communication systems and personal protective gear to handle emergency situations effectively, the release said. The deployment has been carried out following a request from the Member Secretary of the KSDMA, it added.

The authority also stated that a round-the-clock control room will function at the NDRF base in Arakkonam, Tamil Nadu, to closely track developments related to the monsoon situation.
In addition, the NDRF is coordinating closely with Kerala’s State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) to monitor weather conditions and ensure swift action in the event of any emergency, the KSDMA said.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier, on Monday, forecast that the southwest monsoon is likely to make its onset over Kerala around May 26. The weather department also noted that the arrival of the monsoon may vary by up to four days, either earlier or later than the predicted date.
