AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) travelled to Delhi on Tuesday, raising speculation about his party’s political future. His solo visit comes at a time when AIADMK faces an existential crisis. There are rumours that two senior party leaders might later join him in Delhi.
The official reason for his visit is to inspect the AIADMK office in Delhi, which was recently inaugurated. The building, constructed for ₹10 crore, was opened via video conferencing from Chennai. EPS will also meet senior lawyers regarding a pending case before the Election Commission.
However, sources suggest that his agenda includes talks with major political parties, including the BJP. With discussions on alliances gaining momentum, EPS may meet BJP leaders to explain AIADMK’s stance on the three-language policy and constituency reorganisation.

Political observers believe EPS wants to meet BJP leaders before Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin does. Stalin informed the Assembly on Monday that he would personally present the Joint Action Committee’s resolution on constituency reorganisation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. EPS likely wants to communicate AIADMK’s concerns before Stalin’s meeting.
This visit is seen as a shift in AIADMK’s position on a BJP alliance. EPS had earlier opposed ties with the BJP for the 2026 Assembly elections. However, changing political dynamics in Tamil Nadu, including actor Vijay’s new party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), may have forced AIADMK to reconsider.
The BJP, too, is assessing its options. Without AIADMK’s support, it risks poor performance in the next Assembly elections, just as in the recent Lok Sabha polls. EPS’s Delhi visit could mark the beginning of renewed alliance talks.
